Twenty- Year old Edmund Sarfo has been arrested in Asawasi Constituency in the Ashanti Region after he was allegedly bused to the constituency to partake in the ongoing Voter Registration Exercise by the Electoral Commission.
Both NDC and NPP executives of Asawasi Constituency have accused each other for busing non-residents from different areas to Asawasi Constituency to register.
Edmund Sarfo, a student of Asanteman Senior High School in Kumasi after he was arrested revealed that he stays at Pankrono and vote in Tafo-Pankrono Constituency.
He revealed that one Virtual Arts teacher in Asanteman Senior High School popularly known as ‘Anodwo’ bused him and other colleagues from Pakrono to partake in the ongoing voter registration exercise in the Asawasi Constituency.
“I never knew the teacher’s action was illegal. He asked us to come and register in Asawasi Constituency if we needed our card on time. Little did we know that he had different agenda” he explained.
Deputy NDC Asawasi Constituency Secretary Marwan Abdul Wahab speaking in an interview with Pure Fm’s Osei Kwadwo revealed that, Edmund Sarfo was arrested after interrogation by polling station agents.
According to Marwan Abdul Wahab, they were 25 but the other 24 were able to escape after their counterpart was arrested.
“We are sending a strong warning to non-residents of Asawasi not to come and register because we (NDC Asawasi Executives) are very vigilant. We’ll resist attempts by any group to bus people to the constituency to register in the ongoing voter registration exercise” Marwan said.
He revealed that the Asawasi NDC Constituency Executives will hand over Edmund Sarfo to the Police for investigation.
