COVID-19: NCCE, Ahwerewa Community receive relief items from ODAMOS Foundation

Residents of Ahwerewa, a farming community in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti region are heaving a sigh of relief after receiving some nose masks and hand sanitizers to keep them safe from the deadly coronavirus as the count for positive cases and death continues to rise in the country.

President of the ODAMOS Aid for Rural Development Foundation, the nongovernmental organization that presented the items to the community, Mr Ramos Odame Baffour said the gesture was inspired by the commitment of his organization to assisting government drive home a robust education and sensitization campaign on the disease to hard-to-reach areas in the country.

The items included 200 nose masks and 200 pieces of hand sanitizers aimed at equipping the National Commision for Civic Education (NCCE) COVID -19 education was targeted at the aged and the vulnerable  in the community.

The Sekyere East District was among the first to record positive cases in the Ashanti region.

The exercise was done on collaboration with its global partners Stichting Ata- Uit Get Hart and the East District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), which led the education and sensitization on the wearing of masks, hand washing, social distances and other safety protocols prescribed by the Ghana Health Service.

Ghana’s total positive cases have risen to 7,768 as of Saturday, May 30, 2020.

The number of recoveries has also increased to 2,540.

The Ghana Health Service reports of 152 new cases while 128 people have also recovered from the disease.

One death has also been recorded bringing to 35 the total number of COVID-19 deaths recorded in the country.
