Manya Krobo: Residents protest siting of graveyeard


Some residents at Kodjonya-Menekpo in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality have expressed their displeasure at the the siting of burial site in the community.

According to the residents, the intended interment of one late Gyebi Lawer on a plot of land belonging to the bereaved family will pose a health risk to members of the community.

The residents in an interview with’s Samuel Sackey said the graveyard is closer to the sources of drinking water in the community.

They therefore fear that the six wells will be polluted after the deceased in buried on the said piece of land.

With burial of the deceased scheduled for Saturday, 30th May, 2020, the agitated residents, as a result of the development have issued a stern warning to the Kwaku Gyebi family.

The angry residents have therefore warned the family members not to step foot on the said piece of land or risk facing a stiff resistance from members of the community including the shedding of blood.

Interestingly, the residents alleged that they are being forced to e residents further said all efforts aimed at settling the issue amicably, including discussions with the bereaved family, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer and Assembly Member for the area have proven futile.

The date for the burial of the deceased however remains unchanged.
