The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a man posing as National Chairman of the United Progressive Party (UPP).

The man, Kennedy Asamoah who was in Kumasi to meet the press on what he claim as discrepancies in the Party was arrested on tip off on the evening of Thursday, May 21.

Narrating the incident to the media, Akwasi Addai Odike said he had information of a supposed press briefing which was scheduled to take place in Kumasi by the imposter and called for his arrest.

‘I was informed yesterday around 15hrs GMT, that a meeting was scheduled to take off by our national chairman. I made few calls and realised that there was no such event organised by my party chairman. Further checks with party Executives for identification of the supposed chairman proved false. So I immediately called for his arrest.’

According to the UPP flagbearer the suspect confirmed upon an arrest that he was not a member of the party.

Mr Odike revealed that the seat of government has also fallen prey to activities of the suspect.

‘Kennedy is young I’ve known for years. He returned from Canada years ago to sell vehicles. I even bought a vehicle from him. After going broke, he wants to capitalised on the fact that he knows me to parade himself as a national chair for a party I founded. He even received an undisclosed amount from high profile person at the Jubilee House on the ticket of the party’.

Mr Kennedy Asamoah is reported to have granted several interviews on various media platforms across the country as national chairman on the ticket of the United Progressive Party.

Before his arrest, he was in Kumasi to meet pressmen on his ‘usual briefings’.

The suspect has been granted bail, while the police has taken further action to process him for court.

The UPP has urged the public who may had fallen victim to the activities of the suspect to contact the nearest police stations to assist in investigations.
