Accra faulty traffic lights – When will they be fixed?

Many traffic lights in Accra are still malfunctioning, in spite of plans made by the Ministry of Highways to fix all malfunctioning lights by the end of June 2019.

Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Kwesi Amoako Atta on January 23, 2019 stated that the problem of faulty traffic lights in Accra will become a thing of the past by June 2019 in a press briefing.

This promise will however not come to pass as Angel news reporter, Odehyie Kwaku Asiedu observed during a recent tour that most traffic lights in Accra are currently not working.

Some traffic lights in the capital are either broken down and some are always in amber and have all three signs on at the same time.

Some broken lights hang loosely on the wires that supply power to them, meaning that they can easily fall off and injure pedestrians.

This is particularly the case of traffic lights at Menskrom on the Accra Kasoa Highways where traffic light units are broken down for over two years.

Some bulbs are off and fallen out of the sockets because of neglect.

According to some traders at the vicinity, the lights there had not been working for almost two years, causing accidents, cars knocking down pedestrians .

Some pedestrians who spoke to Odehye Kwaku Asiedu called on the ministry of roads and highways to as matter of urgency fix the lights for them as its posed danger.

The traffic lights in Mendskrom are but a few of the example of broken down traffic signs in the country and that has nonetheless caused lots of accidents.
