Some residents of GICEL Estate (SCC) in the Weija-Gbawe constituency of the Greater Accra Region have called on government to come out with workable measures that will stem flooding in the area.
Speaking to Angel News’ Odehye Kwaku Asiedu in an interview, some residents attributed the floods to mainly the slow pace of a bridge construction which has been neglected by the contractor.
The nonetheless admitted the lack of proper drains, shallow and choked gutters, and other human activities are also involved.
The mother of a week old baby who was affected by the flood said their house was completely flooded and she was left with no option than to walk out with the baby on to a story building.
They therefore called on the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Tina Naa Ayele Mensah to have a word with the contractor to hasten the construction as the meteorological agency hints of heavy rains this year.
The residents revealed that the Weija Municipal Fire Command took money from them to fuel their tanker during the flood.
The Municipal NADMO Director for Weija-Gbawe Municipality, Mr Adu Boahen mentioned to Angel news that his outfit lacks the equipment which will aid NADMO function effectively .
He said the NADMO office has no vehicle for monitoring and education which is a primary step in curbing any uncertainty.
