A former Deputy Organiser for the New Patriotic Party in United States of America, Alhaji Ali Suraj has revealed that the President, Nana Akufo-Addo has purchased a house for Zongo chiefs with financial resources set aside to develop and transform the social and economic conditions of Zongo communities.
In an exclusive interview on Angel Fm’s flagship program, Angel in the Morning, He tells show host Kwame Tanko that one of the many things that the President has done for the Zongos that will remain a legacy is purchasing a house for Zongo Chief.
‘I want to tell my Zongo people that now we also have a house in Accra. Yes! the President has bought a house for our Zongo chief in Accra using the Zongo Development Fund(ZoDF). In fact the president has done great things for the Zongo people. Years ago we didn’t have a home in Accra for our chief. But today when they travel they have a place to sleep unlike previous years. This and many other things the president is doing for us and we can’t relent on our support for him.’
He further added that the ZoDF money is for the Zongos and ‘that is exactly what it’s been used for’ It’s our money and this time we’re all witnesses that it’s been used to our benefit’ he clearly stated defending his early stance.
‘As i sit here, my prior motive in life right now is for Akufo-Addo to retain the seat come 2021. That is all i have in mind now – nothing more, he said.
Alhaji Suraj, who claim to have handled security intelligence for the NPP during 2012 elections added:
‘Tanko(pointing to the host) I’ve done a lot in terms of providing security for the NPP, a reason for which they took me to the US. Now I’m back to assist the president and my party to retain power. Together with the boys i trained, whom i know are listening. We’re winning this elections hands down even if Mahama is made Electoral Commission chair.’
The Zongo Development Fund Act was passed on 10th November 2017 and it received Presidential Assent on 2nd January 2018.
