The Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has assured her constituents that she will continue to work hard to bring more development to the constituency.
She made this remark when she cut the sod for the construction of ultramodern Ga East Municipal Fire Station and Office for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
The two facilities are being constructed side-by-side on a land belonging to the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), near the Atomic Post Office and opposite the Kwabenya Community Senior High School.
The Municipal NHIA Office will have a Reception area, general offices, Document Control room, Management Information System (MIS) room, Accounts office, Manager’s office, Conference room and other amenities including vehicle parking area.
Speaking at a brief sod-cutting ceremony, the MP, who is also the Minister of State for Public Procurement and Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament, observed that owing to the growing population of the constituency and lack of proper offices for the Municipal NHIA, currently housed in a rented store-office, it became an urgent need to build an office complex to enhance the delivery of quality healthcare for the people.
“I’m full of confidence that when the construction of this project is done, this office will enhance the effective delivery of Health Insurance to the masses in a more spacious and properly structured office”, she stated.
“The spirit of this ceremony is to reinforce the broader objective of government’s efforts to provide infrastructure for the delivery of effective healthcare nationwide. Moreso, contributing to the achievement of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal Three (3), which is ‘Good Health and Well-being'”, the MP added.
Hon. Adwoa Safo highlighted her numerous achievements since becoming Member of Parliament for the Dom-Kwabenya Constituency including facilitating the construction and commissioning of the Ga East Municipal Hospital, construction of the Hastso Maternity Clinic, construction of an ultramodern Out-Patient Department (OPD) for the Abokobi Health Centre and registration and renewal of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for over 700 of her constituents, among others.
Since the split of the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), in 2012, the municipality/constituency have relied on the services of the Madina and Legon Fire Stations to address fire-related disasters or occurrences.
The construction of the state-of-the-art Ga East Municipal Fire Station, therefore, is a huge relief to the people and a major boost in the development agenda of the municipality and constituency and the Hon. MP could not hide her joy at this feat.
“We thank the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission for allocating the land for the project which I believe is long overdue. I urge you all to make this a community-owned project”, Hon. Adwo Safo remarked.
Hon. Adwoa Safo appealed to contractor, Messrs Elvito Enterprise Limited to expedite work on the project, estimated to cost the Government of Ghana (GoG) One Million and Five Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC1,500,000.00), and ensure quality work is produced within the scheduled completion peroid.
The Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Samuel Nana Brenya, expressed utmost appreciation to the Member of Parliament for making it possible for the Service to finally get a Station in the Ga East Municipality.
He said this move will greatly enhance their service delivery in region and, particularly, in and around the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency.
The Deputy Director-General of GAEC, Prof. Shiloh K. D. Osae, expressed great delight at the siting of the two facilities on their land, especially the Fire Station, because of its relevance to the safety of the Atomic Reactor and other facilities.
He appealed to the Government, through the MP and the Ga East Municipal Assembly, to help in fencing their land to protect one of the State’s prized assets, the Atomic Reactor and related-facilities.
