The Central Market in the Ashanti Regional Capital, Kumasi was shut hours after the market was reopened for business.

The closure of the market follows the refusal of the market women to observe the mandatory social distance that was instituted by authorities as part of measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease.

According to a report on the website of Accra-based Starr FM, authorities could not get the market women to observe the needed protocols hence the shut down.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo during the 7th address to the nation on actions being taken by the government to halt the spread of the disease announce the lifting of the partial lockdown on Accra, Kumasi, Tema and Kasoa.

The decision has been met with mixed reactions.
