The Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana Prison Service provided measures to protect inmates at various prisons centers in the region from Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in Ghana.
Ghana has recorded six (6) cases of the novel Coronavirus.
The Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Ashanti Regional Prison Service, DSP Richard Bukari who narrated the measures to Pure Fm’s Osei Kwadwo said a task force has been constituted to supervise the entire measures by the Prison Service.
According to DSP Richard Bukari, Kumasi Prison has set up quarantine centre to quarantine suspected cases of coronavirus.
“We have charged all prison commanders in the various prisons camp in the region to set up quarantine centers to quarantine suspected cases before they will call the emergence numbers provided by government.”
“Prison officers, visitors and inmates are screened before they can enter prison camps in the region. We have provided water, soap, nose mask and hand sanitizers for persons who will visit prison camps from outside including prison officers and inmates who will go out. We are doing our possible best to protect the inmates and officers,” he said.
DSP Bukari appealed to the public, stakeholders and NGOs to support prisons with hand sanitizers and nose mask.
