A national communications team member of the main opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin has revealed that the party intends to jail the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensa after 2020 elections.
Speaking on Pure 95.7 FM’s flagship program, ‘Pure Morning Drive’ Yamin stated that the party will not relent on jailing the EC Boss when they take over power.
”Jean Mensa is a candidate for jail, she’ll be the first person to visit Nsawam after 2021. Akufo-Addo and the Electoral Commissioner have been exposed over the Biometric Verification Device. The justification they gave us to compile a new register has been exposed. They claim the register is obsolete and is expensive to repair after consulting New Patriotic Party IT persons.
“So we went behind them to enquire whether that information is true and whether the machines are repairable. Kwame, it will interest you to know that, repairing the machines is far cheaper than procuring a new one. The so called obsolete register too is up-gradable in a matter of seconds. This is pure deceit of the people who gave you that mandate…and that alone qualifies her for jail,” he said.
“Kwame, IT software are not thrown out. It is updated anytime. Ei, so today Jean Mensa and Bossman Asare both the President’s political appointees are wasting eight hundred and thirty million Ghana Cedis to compile a new register and Nana Addo is happy because that money will be used to fund their evil political ambitions?,” he quizzed.
Sounding sober, Yamin appealed to the President to reverse the decision to compile a new voter register and let Ghanaians know that the ‘EC’s decision didn’t make sense’.
“I’m expecting Nana Addo to use independence day celebration to make an informed decision about the new register. We agree that early on when he addressed Ghanaians in Ireland, he was misinformed; but now he has all the information at his doorstep”.
He said the Electoral Commission (EC) led by the Chairperson, Jean Mensa is being remote-controlled to compile new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary polls.
The EC’s decision to compile a new voters’ register as well as upgrade its election management system has been met with opposition from the six political parties.
