Gov’t instigated galamsey fight to punish Ghanaian miners – NDC Parliamentary Candidate

Parliamentary Candidate for Nhyiaeso Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Evangelist Richard Prah has stated that the President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo initiated the galamsey fight to protect foreign miners.

Government imposed the ban on small-scale mining as part of a frontal attack on the activity in line with President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo promise to sanitize the sector at his inauguration as President.

Small-scale miners, some of whom are foreign nationals, flout environmental rules and use dangerous chemicals like mercury to mine, polluting freshwater bodies that support ecology or serve as strategic sources of drinking water.

The Nhyiaeso Constituency NDC parliamentary candidate in an interview said government have enough time to win the the fight against illegal mining, ‘yet has failed’.

According to Evangelist Richard Prah, government’s decision to withdraw the military from operation vanguard task force is a clear case that government is incompetent.

“Is President Akuffo Addo trying to tell Ghanaians that the Police can do better than the military? President Akuffo Addo imposed ban on galamsey just to punish Ghanaian miners and protect the foreigners” Richard Prah said.

He however called on Ghanaians to reject the NPP and vote massively for the NDC.

“Ghanaians should vote massively against Akufo-Addo. With all the support Ghanaians gave his government to fight illegal mining, he has disappointed Ghanaians especially the media” He added.
