GhPL Review: Asante Kotoko back to winning ways, Hearts held by Elmina Sharks

Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Friday returned to winning ways in the ongoing Ghana premier league after coming from behind to whip Bechem United 3-1 at their newly adopted home ground, Accra Sports Stadium.

The hunters took the lead against the run of play in the 20th minute courtesy striker Hafiz Konkoni but quick responses from Martin Antwi, Augustine Okrah and Imoro Ibrahim was enough for Kotoko to record their first win after three matches to end their woes.

Meanwhile, arch rivals Hearts of Oak had to rely on talisman Kofi Kordzi’s powerful header to cancel Dennis Mensah’s 24th minute drive outside the penalty box at the Accra Sports Stadium where they hosted Elmina Sharks.

In Sogakope, West African Football Academy (WAFA) recorded the biggest win of Week 12 fixtures.

The Academy Boys sent the Ashgold to the cleaners by dethroning them 6-1 at the Red Bull Arena. A brace from Konadu Yiadom and a goal each from Andrews Ntim, Ibrahim Abubakari, Daniel Owusu and Haruna Mola was enough for the ‘school boys’ to demolish the Miners.

Ashanti Gold who suffered their biggest defeat in the history of the competition pulled one back as a consolation through Amos Nkrumah in the 38th-minute.

Berekum Chelsea got themselves a 4-2 home win over struggling King Faisal at the Golden City Park. Stephen Amankonah scored twice with Jordan Opoku and Richard Kissi Boateng getting the other two while Osman Ibrahim and Frimpong Boateng found the net for the Insha Allah Boys.

Paa Kwesi Fabin was off to flying start to his reign as head coach of Aduana Stars as he recorded a victory in his first game in the premiership.

Aduana Stars pipped Dreams FC 1-0 at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu as they recovered from their FA Cup shock defeat last week. Isaac Kwain’s intelligent free-kick in the dying embers of the game was enough to send the Dormaa outfit to the summit of the 18 club league.
