It will be impossible for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to secure 30 percent of votes from the Ashanti region so long as an Ashanti is not the party’s flagbearer, a political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Amakye Boateng has predicted.
“The Ashanti Region is solidified in support of the New Patriotic Party, it’s a no go area. Not even a running mate from this region will help them, they’ll still not meet the target. I am saying that NDC will never pull 30 percent of the total votes cast in Ashanti, until the party elects a flagbearer from the region. Period!”
“If I’m helping them strategise, I’ll tell them to focus and strengthen areas that vote for them and not invest in marginal areas, it won’t help,” he told host of ‘Pure Morning Drive’ Kwame Adinkra on Friday.
He insisted that the percentage of voters who may be looking for change in the Ashanti Region cannot be quantified ahead of time adding that ‘the Region is dominated by the NPP’.
