The Paediatric Oncology Department at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has charged parents to seek early treatment at hospital of their cancer children to help reduce death of children suffering from cancer.
The increasing number of deaths in children at KATH in the Ashanti Region is said to be as a result of childhood cancers.
Senior Nursing Officer at the Pediatric Oncology Department at KATH, Dr. Micheal Agyemang advised Ghanaians to stop chasing Mallams and Prophets for cancer treatment.
Dr Agyemang in an interview with Pure FM’s Ambassador Osei Kwadwo attributed death of cancer patients especially children with cancer to the delay in seeking treatment.
“Many parents will only come to the hospital after other alternative treatments, including herbal medicine, Mallams and Prophets fail. By this time, most of the harm is already done. When they come to the hospital early, it helps us to treat it to save their lives. Most of them come late because they have gone through various modules of treatments, by the time they arrive here there is little we can do,” he bemoaned.
Dr Micheal Agyemang appealed to the general public to support cancer patients since majority of cancer patients are facing financial challenges.
