The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has visited Dagombaline and Suame Magazine where fire outbreak destroyed billions of properties and houses.
On Friday, February 14, 2020 part of Dagombaline in the Oforikrom Constituency caught fire which rendered over 1000 residents homeless.
On Saturday, February 15, 2020 part of Zone 11 at Suame Magazine was also razed down by fire.
The delegation included Minister of National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah; Director-General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh; DOI Henry Giwah, Deputy Ashanti regional commander of the Ghana National Fire Service; MP for Oforikrom Constituency, Emmanuel Marfo; Suame MCE, Osei Bobie Boahin; Oforikrom MCE, Gloria Temma Gambrah and Ashanti Regional NADMO officials.
Addressing the gathering, the Ashanti Regional Minister expressed his deepest condolences and commiserated with the victims of the fire outbreak.
“On behalf of President Akuffo Addo, I came here to console the victims. President Akufo -Addo is concerned about the development that is why the Minister for National Security, Albert Kan DapaaH and Director-General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh are here with me,” he said.
The National Security Minister announced plans by government to assist the victims.
“President Akuffo Addo called me to come and witness the situation and bring him the report. From here, I will give the report to him and we will know how best we can assist you. For now I cannot assure you that government is going to support you with this or that but after everything, you will here from government,” Kan Dapaah said.
Director-General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh educated the victims and people about dangers of illegal wiring.
“We should all be mindful of people we pay to do wiring in our homes and work places. If you need electricity in your homes, just go to Electricity Company of Ghana for legal and professional electrician to help reduce unwanted fire outbreaks,” he said.
The victims interacting with Pure FM’s Ambassador Osei Kwadwo appealed to the general public, stakeholders and government to come to their aid since they have lost all their capital.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister met with the leadership of Dagombaline at Regional Coordinating Council.
The Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has commenced investigations into the two fire outbreaks.
