2020: NDC will win Mampong parliamentary seat – NPP Supporters fume

Some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asante Mampong have vowed to vote against the party’s parliamentary candidate if former Member of Parliament (MP) and presidential hopeful, Addai Nimo is not allowed to contest in the party’s primaries.

Addai Nimo’s nomination form was rejected today February 19, 2020 by NPP Constituency executives of Asante Mampong in the Ashanti region.

Addai Nimo had earlier been denied the opportunity to pick nomination forms to contest the Asante Mampong parliamentary seat at the constituency level.

The Chairman of the Elections Committee, Mr. Gyesi Nimarko told supporters of Addai Nimo who went to submit the forms that he could not accept the forms because he can’t read the writings on the forms.

He further added that the forms can’t be accepted because the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) had informed him that he and his followers are on their way to submit his forms therefore Hon. Nimo’s forms can’t be accepted until tomorrow.

Some party supporters in an interview with Pure FM’s Ambassador Osei Kwadwo said: “We are not going to allow the party to protect the incumbent MP to go unopposed. There should be a contest for the party delegates to decide who should lead Asante Mampong to represent the party in Parliament in the ticket of the party”.

“If the party wants to lose the Asante Mampong seat to NDC then the party executives should continue to allow the incumbent MP to go unopposed. We will vote massively for NDC parliamentary candidate if the incumbent MP goes unopposed,” they said.

Meanwhile, former MP for Asante Mampong, Addai Nimo and his supporters are holding a meeting in his official office for a decision to be taken on the matter.
