‘We want our Male Halls back not new voters register’ – KNUST students to Govt

Some students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have joined the Inter Party Demonstration in the Ashanti Region against the compilation of the New Voters Register by Electoral Commission (EC).

Over 3000 demonstrators from different political parties embarked of demonstration in Ashanti Region to resist EC’s decision to compile new Voters Register ahead of 2020 General Elections.

The KNUST students speaking in an interview with Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo Ambassador urged the government to restore the all male status of Katanga and Unity halls.

It will be recalled that Unity and Katanga halls were converted to mixed halls after several consultation between government, stakeholders and the school management.

Constantly, the Katangees have raised concerns over the admission of female students into the hall.

The University started admitting female students into two male halls, namely University Hall (Katanga) and Unity Hall (Conti) after the dismissal of an injunction application seeking to prevent the conversion, a move both current and past students are not happy with.

“We want to tell government to bring back our Male halls. Instead of wasting money on the voters register, government should consider using that money to build more hostels to accommodate the male students,” they said.
