Kotoko come from behind to beat Hearts to lift 2019 President’s Cup


Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat their arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak by 2 goals to 1 to claim the 2019 President’s Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors had to come from a goal down to beat the Phobians to record a win that will boost the moral of the Fabulous boys ahead of the start of the League Campaign.

Hearts of Oak took the lead after Empem Dacosta’s handball in the penalty area was converted by Kofi Kordzi on the 37th Minute.

Kotoko however warmed themselves into the game in added time of the first half after Mohammed Alhassan scored an own goal.

Hearts of Oak manager, Kim Grant made three changes at the start of the second half with Charles McCarthy coming on for Emmanuel Mintah; Obeng Junior also came on for Aminu Alhassan and Mitchelle Sarpong came on to replace Manaf Umar.

Kofi Kordzi again missed a good chance after going past the Kotoko keeper and the the open net yawning at him.

Coach Maxwell Konadu who was playing his first match as Kotoko trainer indicated his willingness to control and win the game as in the 56th minute, striker, Naby Keita was brought in to replace Collins Ameyaw.

This change had great impact on the game as nine minutes later, the substitute, Naby Keita headed home a cross from the left by Patrick Yeboah.

The tactical Maxwell Konadu later brought on Imoro Ibrahim and Kelvin Andoh on for Songne Yacouba and Patrick Yeboah for Kotoko respectively.

The game was largely controlled by home side after the second goal.
