Boxing: Ghanaian Coaches lack technics in boxing – Azumah Nelson hints

Ghana Boxing legend, Azumah Nelson has hinted that the current crop of Boxing coaches in the country lack the technics in the sport.

According to the greatest African boxer of all time, the inability of Ghanaian boxers to defend their world titles is as a result of their trainers not understanding the technics of the sport.

Speaking on Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports as monitored by, Professor Zoom Zoom, as Azuma Nelson is known said:

“The Coaches don’t understand the technics of boxing and that is why our boxers are not able to defend their titles.

“Anyone can be a world champion but defending the title is what really makes you a world champion,” he said.

He therefore appealed to the government to come to the aid of boxing coaches in the country so Ghanaian boxers can have the best of training in the sport.

The Ghana boxing legend then added that, the crop of boxers at our disposal uses strength instead of technics.

“Our fighters are using strength instead of the usual technics. And the coaches are the one supposed to teach them,” Azuma Nelson stressed.

The 61-year-old former WBC featherweight and super featherweight champion thereafter advised Richard Oblitey Commey to go back to the drawing board and bounce back strongly after losing his IBF title to Hungarian-American Teofimo Lopez.
