E/R: MTN donates to Suhum Odwira Festival as part of Suhumhene’s 20th Anniversary

MTN Ghana on Thursday, November 22, 2019 presented a cheque of GH¢5,000.00 and some items in support of this year’s Suhum Odwira festival in the Eastern Region Of Ghana as part of its corporate social responsibilities.

The donation included MTN Souvenirs, MTN recharge cards, and a drink hamper worth GH¢300.00 and GH¢1,000.00 respectively to support the ongoing festival.

The Odwira Festival (alternate, Suhum Odwira) is celebrated by the Akuapem people and chiefs in Suhum, as well as the Akuapem diaspora.

It’s next only in importance to the National Independence Day celebrations for the people.

Residents of Suhim during the celebration of the festival exhibits their rich culture and their way of life, such as inheriting ideas, beliefs, values, knowledge and skills.

Presenting the items to the Omanhene of the Suhum Traditional Area, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi at his Palace; Communication Manager at MTN Ghana, Afua Falconer said:

“MTN acknowledges festival projects a lot about the African society and we are considered an integral part of the African Culture. MTN Ghana has placed special emphasis on extending its support to Traditional councils across the country through cash and it’s kind donations. We currently support over 30 festivals each year across the country and we are proud of these investments.”

“MTN is delighted to join the people of Suhum to celebrate the 2019 Suhum Odwira festival as we seek to strengthen the relationship that exists between MTN and the Traditional Authority” she affirmed.

She therefore extended congratulatory message to ‘Osabarima Ayeh Kofi’ on the occasion of his 20th-anniversary celebration as the chief of Suhum.

According to the communication manager, their support for traditional festivals is part of their bid to delight and enhance the celebration of culture and heritage to help attract more patrons from far and near to join.

She thereby urged the people of the Suhum municipality to use the new MTN launched App called the ‘Heritage App’ which is aimed at showcasing Ghanaian heritage and culture as an opportunity to post pictures and videos of such occasions.

Suhumhene, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi after receiving the items commended MTN Ghana for their kind gesture and support given to all cultural events in the country over the past.

Osabarima Ayeh Kofi also called on MTN Ghana to support his educational fund aimed at ‘providing scholarships to up and coming ladies, in their quest to attaining a high standard of education as they target to give out to about 20 people annually in the Suhum municipality’.
