Parliament: Angry Speaker suspends sitting to protest MPs’ lateness


The Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Aaron Oquaye suspended sitting after members of the house turned up late for discussions.

Reports from the August House that reached indicated that the Speaker was forced to suspend sitting because the MPs present at the start of proceedings did not form the needed quorum for deliberations to begin.

The Marshall counted only 96 MPs as at the time the Speaker walked into the chamber.

The Speaker then summoned the leadership of the House for a meeting where he registered his displeasure with the lateness of the MPs.

Today is the Day 2 of the discussion of the 2020 Budget statement presented by the Finance Minister last week. As at the time of filing this report, the Speaker has summoned the MPs back into the chamber for deliberations to continue.
