The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sefwi Bodi in the Western North Region, Sampson Ahi has claimed that the Akufo-Addo government pushed COCOBOD to secure the $600 million loan from African Development Bank (AfDB) so it can use part of the money for its 2020 campaign.
President Akufo-Addo signed the $600 million syndicated loan facility from the African Development Bank, and Credit Suisse Group AG, which is intended to finance key components of the organisation’s productivity enhancement programmes in South Africa today.
The President assured after signing the loan that the money will be used for the intended purposes.
Commenting on the loan on Angel 102.9FM’s Accountable to the People, on Tuesday, the MP said he disagreed with the claim that the money will be used for the intended purposes.
According to him, there is ample evidence to suggest that the government is backing COCOBOD to secure the loan so it can use it for the 2020 elections.
“The money will be used for campaign, it is not for any development of the cocoa sector…what do you mean by buying cocoa products for soldiers and prisoners…it’s clearly money for the elections…,” he said.
He however denied that the NDC also secured loans during the Mahama regime for use for elections.
Sampson Ahi further added that the breakdown presented by COCOBOD backs his claim.
