Breaking: Tension in Suame as GUTA members shut Nigerian shops

There is an uneasy calm at Suame Magazine in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region as members of Ghana Union Trade Association (GUTA) have closed down shops of foreigners who operate within the enclave.

Kumasi based Pure FM Osei Kwadwo Ambassador who visited the scene reported that armed police personnel were deployed to the area to maintain peace and order.

The presence of the armed police personnel, according to Osei Kwadwo couldn’t prevent the angry GUTA members from closing down shops of the foreigners.

Some of the GUTA members in an interview revealed that they have closed down foreigners shops at Asawasi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region before coming to Suame Magazine.

“We are tired of broken promises from Ghana leaders. Activities of the foreign retailers have collapsed our businesses because our leaders especially President Akufo-Addo do not enforce the law.

“Foreigners doing retail business is against the law of this country. Nothing will stop us from closing down Foreigners shops today” they said.
