The campus of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) has been taken over by personnel from the Police and the Military following violent demonstration on the campus by the students.
The security men were dispatched unto the campus after the students destroyed several school properties including poly tanks, office doors and vehicles.
Angel FM’s Osei Kwadwo Ambassador who visited the school reported that a teacher in the school allegedly assaulted a Form 3 student for wearing non-prescribed uniform and using mobile phone on campus.
According to the students, the Form 3 student struggled with the teacher when the student decided not to obey the teachers instructions.
“When the student was struggling with the teacher, the teacher gave the student multiple slaps. He (the teacher) seized the student’s mobile phone which was in his bag. After the teacher slapped the student, it angered the form 3 students and they started agitating with machetes, cutlasses and other weapons,” a student who pleaded anonymity explained.
The students added that the students vandalized the school properties when the school authorities prevented them from attacking the teacher who assaulted their colleague.
At least 10 students were injured during the demonstration. They have been admitted at a nearby hospital.
The action of the students has affected teaching and learning in the school. Majority of the students have also left campus.
