Residents domiciling around the Weija Dam in Accra have been ordered to vacate their homes with immediate effect to avoid disaster.
Personnel of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) who were at the studios of Angel 102.9FM on Tuesday said the residents ought to take the order serious to avoid any disaster.
The torrential rains in the capital, the NADMO officials who are from the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA) said have led to an overflow of the Weija Dam hence their insistence that residence vacate the location with immediate effect.
The team led by the NADMO Coordinator, Emmanuel Adu Boahene mentioned that the floodgates of the Dam will soon be opened to allow excess water out so the Dam does not collapse.
Residents in areas like Mandela Dam Site, Oblogo, Weija, Tetegu, Sampa Valley and several other villages around the dam will be affected when the floodgates of the Dam are opened.
As a means of preventing disaster, the WGMA NADMO said they have been touring various areas to impress upon the residents to vacate with immediate effect.
The MCE, Patrick Kumor, they said, personally availed himself and has led the campaign to ensure that residents are not flooded after the Dam is opened.
