The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has said the decision to re-register SIM cards will be ‘fruitless and useless’ if the Communications Ministry does not put in adequate measures.
Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful warned at a press conference that all mobile phone subscribers who fail to re-register their SIM cards by June 2020 will lose their numbers.
She mentioned that the decision to compel all Ghanaians to re-register their numbers is because of the lack of a proper database of all SIM cards being used in Ghana.
She mentioned that previous exercise was not successful hence the decision to compel users to register their sims so they can be put on a central data base.
Commenting on this on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo as monitored by Angelfmonlinegh.com, Kwesi Pratt said he does not see the need to re-register SIM cards as according to him, the previous one was a cumbersome process.
He claimed to have spent more than necessary hours in a queue just to get his SIM registered.
“I spent three to four hours in queue just to get my sim card registered the last time. What is the guarantee that we will not be made to go and re-register the next time, the Minister should come out and tell us, otherwise the registration will be a fruitless, useless exercise…,” he said.
