The Black Queens of Ghana’s hopes of securing a place in next year’s Olympics games was cut short in Kenya.
The Queens lost to the Harambees Starlets of Kenya in Nairobi on Tuesday afternoon following a 1-0 defeat in extra time.
Mercy Tagoe’s team went into the second leg away from home with little or nothing to fight for, after failing to make count their home advantage, in a match which saw both teams not finding the back of the net.
For what seem like all to play for and nothing lose, return fixture in Nairobi, Kenya, the Queens put up an impressive performance, remaining resolute at their rare to replicate same scoreline as the witnessed in Accra; taking the game into extra time.
Ghana fell in the early part of the first half in extra time following a hand ball against Philicity Asuokuo, which was slotted home by Shikangwa on the 99th minutes.
Kenya advance to the next stage of the qualifiers as Ghana joins another power house in women’s football in Africa, Nigeria to be shown the exit.
