Some angry coffin makers in Kuamsi in the Ashanti Region rained curses on authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) for plotting to demolish their public toilet.
The Coffin makers who claimed that they are over 500 coffin accused KMA of sanctioning the demolition of the public toilet to pave way for a possible demolition of the place they work.
Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo who visited the area confirmed that the public toilet has actually been demolished.
“Some people from KMA environmental department came to educate us on chemicals we use to spray the coffin not knowing the Assembly has planned to move us from this place…,” an angry demonstrator said.
He further communicated that the coffin sellers are not ready to relocate from the area insisting that they are ready to fight till death.
“We will not allow the Assembly to relocate us from here without giving us place to go. KMA cannot intimate us because we are ready to fight for our right with our blood” he said.
Chairman of the Coffin manufacturers, Mr. Eric Acheampong in added that the demolition of the public toilet will cause open defecation in the area.
Responding to the complaints by the demonstrators, the Assembly member for Asem Electoral Area, Thomas Ekow Sackey explained that the Assembly has not planned to relocate the coffin sellers and manufacturers from the area.
According to him, the assembly is unaware of the demolition of the public toilet saying investigation will be conducted into the matter.
