The Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson has said that it will be difficult for her Ministry to provide dams for all villages in the Northern Region.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2016 electioneering campaign promised to provide dams for villages in the Northern Region.
This initiative became a flagship policy for the party which was wrestling power from the NDC.
The Akufo-Addo administration upon assumption of office set up the Ministry of Special Development Initiative headed by Haw Koomson to ensure that it executes its promises including the 1 Village 1 Dam.
The Ministry has come under a barrage of criticisms for providing inferior dams to communities in the North.
Some members of the opposition have even claimed that the Ministry only provided dug outs and not dams as was touted during the 2016 elections.
But Hon Koomson believes the opposition is not being fair to the government as according to her, the Ministry has so far provided ‘quality’ dams that can last generations.
Speaking on Accra-based Adom FM on Friday as monitored by Angelfmonlinegh.com, Ms Koomson said that the Ministry has so far undertaken the construction of over 300 Dams which are at various stages of completion.
She however insists that the Ministry cannot construct a dam in every village as many believe.
“We can’t provide a dam in every village but two or more villages can use one dam because they are very close…example is Garu where the two or three villages can come to Garu and make use of the Dam…they said they want bridge across the dam, so we are building one for them…,” she said.
