Nyamekye: Man beaten, stripped naked and tied to electricity pole for stealing ‘shito’

A man believed to be in his 30s was on Thursday dawn arrested for allegedly stealing ‘shito’ from a house in Darkuman Nyamekye, near Lapaz in the Greater Accra Region.

The man who was identified as ‘crime’ was beaten severely by the residents after he failed to justify why he attempted breaking into a second house.

The residents accused him of being behind the increasing theft cases in the area.

“The thief who is popularly known in the area as ‘Crime’ was caught breaking into someone’s room and upon interrogation said, that was where he lived but when the people who lived in the room were called they said they did not know him, At that time he had ‘shito’ in his hands as he confessed he went to a nearby house to steal but could not get anything  than the pepper so he was going to prepare rice with it,” a resident explained to Angel News.

The resident continued that the alleged thief was not handed over to the police because the Police had in times past set free some thieves that were sent to them.

“There has been cases where culprits have been taken to the police and were left to walk free…so he has been tied there for his mother to come for him because an eye witness claimed he knows his mother and he was a nuisance to his family,” the resident added.
