The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has warned that it will not hesitate to destool any chief who allows members of the main opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into their town to campaign.
Secretary to the Traditional Council, Danny Ofori-Atta who was responding to a comment by the Ashanti Regional Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Kwame Zu that, but for former president John Dramani Mahama, the Okyenhene would still be “drinking water with animals”.
Kwame Zu made the statement at a demonstration organised by some opposition parties to protest hardship in the country.
This statement did not sit well with the people of the politically vibrant state of Akyem Abuakwa and their chiefs.
Mr Zu has however offered an unqualified apology to the Okyenhene.
But the Chiefs maintain that they will declare the NDC ‘persona non grata’ in the over 940 villages of Akyem Abuakwa if the party fails to apologise.
Commenting on their release on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Monday as monitored by Angelfmonlinegh.com, DM Ofori-Atta said the Traditional Council will not hesitate to destool any chief who will allow the NDC to campaign in their towns if they fail to apologise.
He said the NDC ought to comply with the three day ultimatum given them if they wish to be in the goog books of Akyem Abuakwa.
The chiefs demanded the following at the demonstration:
1. A direct, clear and unambiguous public apology be rendered by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress to His Royal Majesty the Okyenhene and Okyeman.
2. A ritual pacification be performed to appease His Majesty the Okyenhene.
3. An apology rendered personally by Mr Kwame Zu to the Okyenhene and a public recantation of the offensive words and specific conduct complained off.
4. Invocation of appropriate disciplinary sanctions of the party against the conduct of Kwame Zu.
