The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the decision by the Atebubu Traditional Council to Barnish Hon. Sanja Nanja, the former Member of Parliament for the Atebubu-Amantin Constituency from the area is politically motivated to advance the course of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
On Wednesday, a sheep was sacrificed by the Nsumankwahene of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Nana Kofi Amoakohene to pacify the gods, appease the soul of the Queenmother, Nana Afua Donyina II and also to banish Sanja Nanja from the area.
The move also means Sanja Nanja would be unable to campaign on Atebubu land in his bid to get re-elected to Parliament; he is one of two persons who picked nomination forms to contest the upcoming NDC parliamentary primaries.
Yesterdays traditional ritual, affirms an earlier communication in writing to the media that the former MP, Sanja Nanja had been banned from Atebubu land for disrespecting the queenmother of Atebubu, Nana Afua Donyina II in the run up to the 2016 elections.
It would be recalled that Hon Sanja Nanja described the queenmother as “drunkard” and refused to apologized; a situation that has incurred the wrath of the chief till today.
Speaking in an interview with KT on Angel In The Morning today, Ndc Constituency Chairman for Atebubu-Amantin, Mr Hamidu Bukari said the action of Nananom is to demonstrate their affinity with the NPP.
He said the party has used all means to apologise to the chiefs since the matter broke out, but have fallen on deaf ears.
He said the party would go down and campaign for Sanja Nanja to become the mp should he win the parliamentary primary, even if the candidate would not be allowed to campaign in person.
